Latest working kernel version: 2.6.23.14 has an entry but is diff from /etc/mtab Earliest failing kernel version: 2.6.24 Distribution: private developer system based on linuxfromscratch, diylinux, etc. Hardware Environment: i686 AMD ATHLON 32 BIT PC Software Environment: i686-gnu-linux with latest of most everything. Problem Description: root file system is missing from /proc/mounts This was discovered while running grub-install (grub2) Checked 2.6.24.{1,2} fix releases - problem persists. Steps to reproduce: cat /proc/mounts cat /etc/mtab
Found the problem while researching a failure in Grub2 1.96 grub-install; grub-install calls grub-probe, which fails because it cannot find the grub enabled drive, which is /dev/hda1; /dev/hda1 is the root file system and is missing from /proc/mounts, but still exists in /etc/mtab.
Virgil, there were fixes to this problem done by Miklos Szeredi which covered file system that haven't implemented this for /proc/mounts. Hopefully your case was fixed also. Can you confirm this? - thanks.
