Latest working kernel version: 2.6.9-11 Earliest failing kernel version:2.6.9-11 Distribution:RHEL-4.1 Hardware Environment:AMD Optron Software Environment: Problem Description:while we perform heavy i/o on FC disk through lsi logic FC cards(4Gbps express) the system freezes. in contrast, the freeze is not seen in a Xeon 64bit processor. how do we debug such problems/situation? Is it a very frequent occuring problem with opetron?
We don't work on 2.6.9 any more, sorry. You could take it up with Red Hat or upgrade the kernel...
>how do we debug such problems/situation? you can try if you can get any output from sysrq. see http://lxr.linux.no/linux/Documentation/sysrq.txt attaching a serial console here may also help to get some valuable information out of your system - you may see some errors there when your kernel freezes or if you trigger sysrq. >Is it a very frequent occuring problem with opetron? i don`t have a clue, but you are using a vendor kernel and as andrew suggested you shouldn`t report here but contact red hat since RHEL using a patched kernel supported by redhat. if you can reproduce this on recent vanilla kernel, only then this is the right place to report. oh - and iirc, redhat comes with cpu specific kernels, so if you only have that problem with opteron, you may take a look if you have amd specifc kernel on your system and test if this happens with gernic i368 kernel, too.
hello vellimalai, did you contact redhat for this or test with another kernel? i`m asking because there isn´t much sense leaving this bugreport open for longer - kernel developers don`t have focus on that old kernel. if you still need support for that (as part of an enterprise distro) this should be handled by the distro vendor. regards roland
do you use an amd specific kernel or i386 generic one ? if it`s amd specific, i`d recommend trying generic i386 kernel. anyhow - if you cannot provide information that this happens with vanilla kernel and if you can`t test how this behaves with more recent kernel, there is nothing which can be done here and this isn`t the right place for asking for help. i`d recommend asking redhat first. if you need further assistance on how to proceed solving your problem, please feel free to cantact me.
