+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #9088 +++ Distribution: Sabayon x86_64 Hardware Environment: ACER aspire 5050-4872 (AMD64 laptop) Problem Description: It is not possible with any kernel 2.6.22 or 2.6.23 to initialize the kernel running ACPI. In order to make it run it is necessary to disable acpi (acpi=off) or (acpi=ht). The latest kernel en which I could make ACPI running was 2.6.20-generic Steps to reproduce: compile kernel (under x86_64 linux) as it comes from repository (select AMD64 generic procesor). install, reboot on ACER Aspire 5050-4872 This is the dmesg output when running this kernel from a LiveCD (I'm running now Ubuntu 7.04, version i386, because the version x86_86 fails too to run ACPI. Once running, it is necessary to install the acer_acpi module in order to make wireless card visible to the system. The battery is not recognized in any of the kernel versions: sabayonuser@sabayonx86-64 ~ $ dmesg 32768 (order: 6, 262144 bytes) [ 54.941258] Mount-cache hash table entries: 256 [ 54.941416] CPU: L1 I Cache: 64K (64 bytes/line), D cache 64K (64 bytes/line) [ 54.941418] CPU: L2 Cache: 512K (64 bytes/line) [ 54.941421] CPU 0/0 -> Node 0 [ 54.941441] SMP alternatives: switching to UP code [ 54.941826] Freeing SMP alternatives: 56k freed [ 54.942309] ExtINT not setup in hardware but reported by MP table [ 54.952593] Using local APIC timer interrupts. Do you experience also thermal problems running with AMD64 (x86_64) architecture? See bug: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9167 m

And, the decrease of core temperature is slowly and progressive, it takes near 10 minutes to decrese from 78 to 46 degrees
