Description Sergey Samokhin 2007-09-25 10:49:52 UTC
Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur: unknown
Distribution: Archlinux current
Hardware Environment:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 (rev. 1.0) with last BIOS (F12)
Video card: Nvidia 7600GT (Gigabyte GV-NX76T128D)
RAM: 2 x DIMM 1024Mb PC2-6400 Kingston KVR800D2N5/1G

Software Environment: Archlinux current, Opera 9.23, Firefox 2.0.0.7, Xorg-server 1.2.0, Nvidia drivers 100.14.11 (also I attempted 100.14.19 from testing repo. It doesnt help.)

Problem Description:

My system freezes (mouse cursor doesn't move, hotkeys didn't work) when I view some web pages with Opera or Firefox. Often these pages contain flash (e.g. ag.ru) or javascript (e.g. meebo.com, microsoft.com) content.

Whenever after reset I see in errors.log these records:

Sep 22 10:51:15 myhost irq 16: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option)
Sep 22 10:51:15 myhost handlers:
Sep 22 10:51:15 myhost [<f8837480>] (ata_interrupt+0x0/0x220 [libata])
Sep 22 10:51:15 myhost [<f92939b0>] (sky2_intr+0x0/0x40 [sky2])
Sep 22 10:51:15 myhost [<f92d7170>] (usb_hcd_irq+0x0/0x60 [usbcore])
Sep 22 10:51:15 myhost [<f9fbb7d7>] (nv_kern_isr+0x0/0x98 [nvidia])

The irqpoll option doesnt help.

Steps to reproduce:

Freezes are irregular, and i cann't always reproduce it :( But if long time view web pages with javascript content (meebo.com, microsoft.com, ag.ru etc.) system freezes. It often happened with Opera (~10-15 times) and once with firefox.

Comment 1 Dave Jones 2007-09-25 11:00:12 UTC
On the 'enter bug' page was this comment which you seem to have missed..

2) NO BINARY MODULES or other tainted kernels. Do not file bugs here if you have any binary kernel modules loaded, reproduce without that module first.
NVIDIA users - THIS MEANS YOU!

We cannot debug any problems with the nvidia module loaded.
Comment 2 Sergey Samokhin 2007-09-25 11:28:21 UTC
Sorry my mistake.

I will test it with xf86-video-vesa and post result into this thread.
Comment 3 Dave Jones 2007-09-25 11:38:13 UTC
It's not just the X driver. You need to make sure the nvidia kernel module *never gets loaded*
Comment 4 Sergey Samokhin 2007-10-18 08:02:51 UTC
It doesnt happen with vesa.
