Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur: 2.6.21 Distribution: Gentoo Hardware Environment: VMWare virtual machine, 1gb ram, 18gb harddrive Software Environment: Shouldn't matter in this case Problem Description: The system hangs for a long time when booting, just after it has printed "Decompressing Linux..." on the screen. After a while, it wakes up and continues booting. Steps to reproduce: Try booting a 2.6.22 x86_64 kernel on a vmware virtual machine.
There is a patch for this, just scroll down to the third post in here: http://groups.google.com/group/linux.kernel/browse_thread/thread/caa18c4b4fc12279/1eacaea5db9e91d3 I've added it here as an attachment too, it fixes the problem, and it starts booting instantly.

Zach, I think I missed that patch. Is anything happening with it?
I plan to send it in soon for .23
