Description rene-louis eymard 2007-06-11 15:38:29 UTC
Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur:2.6.18
Distribution:debian
Hardware Environment:i686, quickcam messenger logitech
Software Environment:xawtv, vmware
Problem Description:
when I plug my quickcam messenger webcam and try to get the video with a software like xawtv all I get is a black screen. The cam works perfectly with previous version of the kernel. I tried with the 2.6.22 kernel and I had the same result. I also tried to compile the driver from the source and to delete the module from the kernel and I still had a black screen.

the error message from xawtv is the following:

This is xawtv-3.95.dfsg.1, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.22-rc3-686)

i am using now the unstable version of Debian with kernel 2.6.26 and now my webcam works fine (it started to work again a few month ago). Maybe you could try a more recent version of the kernel.
