I also tried to compile the driver from the source and to delete the module from the kernel and I still had a black screen. the error message from xawtv is the following: This is xawtv-3.95.dfsg.1, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.22-rc3-686) xinerama 0: 1024x768+0+0 /dev/video0 [v4l]: no overlay support v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x72 ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=120;width=160;format=7): Argument invalide ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=120;width=160;format=15): Argument invalide ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=120;width=160;format=9): Argument invalide v4l: timeout (got SIGALRM), hardware/driver problems? ioctl: VIDIOCSYNC(int=0): Appel système interrompu ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=120;width=160;format=5): Argument invalide ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=120;width=160;format=1): Argument invalide ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=120;width=160;format=13): Argument invalide no way to get: 384x288 32 bit TrueColor (LE: bgr-) no way to get: 384x288 32 bit TrueColor (LE: bgr-) nb: Appel système interrompu = systeme call interrupted Argument invalide = invalid argument Steps to reproduce: plug a quickcam messenger and try to get the video with any software
same problem here with fedora 7 and even with 2.6.22 rc4
http://osdir.com/ml/drivers.quickcam.general/2006-05/msg00029.html have a look here ..it worked for me :)
i am using now the unstable version of Debian with kernel 2.6.26 and now my webcam works fine (it started to work again a few month ago). Maybe you could try a more recent version of the kernel.
