Description Gabriel 2007-02-28 20:30:31 UTC
Most recent kernel where this bug did *NOT* occur:
Distribution: ubuntu
Hardware Environment: monitor, philips 109b
Software Environment:
Problem Description: hardware shutdown goes ok with monitor on. Monitor off does
not shutdown hardware. After turning on the monitor I can see the "Power Down"
message.
Comment 1 Roland Kletzing 2008-05-02 12:36:16 UTC
you mean automatic (soft-)poweroff does only work if you switch off your monitor before ?
does that still happen with more recent kernel ?
if you don`t know, can you please give it a try ?
Comment 2 Gabriel 2008-05-02 16:26:30 UTC
yep, automatic. `shutdown -P`

happens 0% of the time if i turn monitor off right after giving the shutdown commando, of after.

I couldn't get the exact time that I need to power down the monitor. happens some 30% of the time i turn down the monitor before pc shutdows.

2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP

tried with the ubuntu 8.04 live cd. still happened once.
Comment 3 ykzhao 2009-02-11 21:40:32 UTC
Hi, Gabriel
    Sorry the late response.
Do you mean that the box can't be shutdown if the monitor is off? Right? If so, why there exists the dependency between the shutdown and the monitor?
Will you please try the latest kernel and see whether the issue still exists?
If it still exists, please attach the output of acpidump, lspci -vxxx?
    Thanks.
Comment 4 Gabriel 2009-02-14 19:34:56 UTC
Happens as this:

case #1
1. start with computer and monitor on.
2. initiate shutdown.
3. shutdown automatically power off PC.
4. I turn monitor Off.

case #2
1. start with computer and monitor on.
2. initiate shutdown.
3. I turn the monitor Off *during* shutdown.
4. when it arrives to the point where the PC would be turned off, it stays on.
5. i turn monitor on later and i can read on the last line "Power Down"

I have since then changed my CRT screen for a LCD one. I still have the CRT that was in use when i opened this bug. I will test this again this week with latest kernel.
Comment 5 Gabriel 2009-03-10 07:30:53 UTC
It started happening with my LCD now. maybe something on the nvidia drive with my board?

If you are using the Nvidia supplied 3D graphics driver you will need to take this up with Nvidia as only they have the code to it.
Comment 9 Roland Kletzing 2009-08-21 20:51:59 UTC
Gabriel,

please tell us if you are using the 3rd party nvidia driver, as we have no other way to close this bugreport then.

i know, this should have being asked much earlier, but ressources here are limited....

if you are NOT using the nvidia driver, does the problem still happen with more recent kernels ? (from 2.6.28 ongoing)

please understand that we will also need to close this bugreport if there is no further response from you.
Comment 10 Len Brown 2011-01-18 07:04:32 UTC
please re-open if this is reproducible with 2.6.37 w/o the binary nvidia driver.

Note You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug.
