Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur: 2.6.17.<last> Distribution: debian unstable Hardware Environment: ASUS P4GE-V board (i845G), p4 2.4GHz, 1G RAM Software Environment: xorg 7.1.1, xserver-xorg-video-i810 1.7.2 Problem Description: now this is really a weird one. the X server hangs (with ca. 50% CPU) during the initial mode switch. but this happens *only* when the computer powered on itself via rtc alarm - using the power switch or power-on via keyboard does not trigger it. after recovery via hitting the reset switch it doesn't happen, either. booting with acpi=off makes the problem go away. it is 100% reproducible. Steps to reproduce: nvram-wakeup --settime `date +%s -d +1min` halt i assume one can simply boot into the bios, configure an alarm wakeup, reboot and hit the power switch ...
problem disappeared in 2.6.19.
