Description MIkhail 2006-06-15 19:27:33 UTC
Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur: 2.6.5-1.358
Distribution: Fedore Core 2
Hardware Environment: Notebook (this is japaneese company which is called
"Notebook")
Software Environment: Standart Fredore Core 2
Problem Description: The standart kernel 2.6.5-1.358 of FC2 doesn't reconize
Marvel Yukon network card. (I have Marvel Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet
controller) But on web site
(http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverSearchResults.do) there is patch for
kernel which provide this (and many ohter for this family) driver. It is well
installed under kernel 2.6.5-1.358. But it is falied for newest kernel 2.6.16.20
(also falied for 2.6.16.18).
The kernel 2.6.16.20 itself provides drivers for Marvel Yukon family but they
can't recognize my card. The sources are too old.
Kernel driver sources are dated by 2003 but the patch by 2005.
Driver for my card is "sk98lin"
Under the kernel 2.6.5-1.358 after patch installation, driver well recognizes my
network card and is working well.

Steps to reproduce:
Install kernel 2.6.16.20
1) driver "sk98lin" can't recognize Marvel Yukon 88E8053
or
2) driver patch from web-site is falied to apply to kernel
Comment 1 Stephen Hemminger 2006-07-10 15:04:07 UTC
The vendor driver patch has been rejected and is superseded by the new sky2
driver.
