[1.] One line summary of the problem: Network card stops working after <5minutes [2.] Full description of the problem/report: i have an asus a6r-b002 notebook and i have problems witch network card. when a compile kernel witch ACPI support my network card stops working after <5 minutes. when i either pass kernel parameter "acpi=off" or don't compile acpi support at all it's ok - network works fine, but since i'm a notebook user i'd ilke to have acpi support. it doesnt matter if i have network card compiled as module (8139too) or with any of options for 8139too module moreover i have to have [*] Local APIC support on uniprocessors [*] IO-APIC support on uniprocessors or else i get something like that: "hdc: lost interrupt" and my computer(kernel during bootup) keeps printing "hdc: lost interrupt" [3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel): kernel, interrupts, networking [4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version): Linux version 2.6.14-gentoo-r7 (gcc version 3.4.4 (Gentoo 3.4.4-r1, ssp-3.4.4-1.0, pie-8.7.8)) [5.] Environment [5.1.] Software (add the output of the ver_linux script here) ver_linux: Linux odyn 2.6.14-gentoo-r7 #2 Mon Feb 27 02:55:14 CET 2006 i686 Intel(R) Celeron(R) M processor 1.60GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux Gnu C 3.4.4 Gnu make 3.80 binutils 2.16.1 util-linux 2.12r mount 2.12r module-init-tools 3.2.1 e2fsprogs 1.38 reiserfsprogs line reiser4progs line xfsprogs 2.7.3 Linux C Library 2.3.5 Dynamic linker (ldd) 2.3.5 Procps 3.2.5 Net-tools 1.60 Kbd 1.12 Sh-utils 5.2.1 udev 079 Modules Loaded fglrx [5.2.] Processor information (from /proc/cpuinfo): cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 13 model name : Intel(R) Celeron(R) M processor 1.60GHz stepping : 8 cpu MHz : 1600.230 cache size : 1024 KB fdiv_bug : no hlt_bug : no f00f_bug : no coma_bug : no fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 2 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss tm pbe nx bogomips : 3207.26 [5.3.] Module information (from /proc/modules): cat /proc/modules fglrx 451660 7 - I experience the same issue with a ubuntu 2.6.20-8 kernel, however the problem occurs straight away on boot.
Still the case with kernel version 2.6.21-rc4
Has anyone tested with latest kernel (2.6.22+), is the problem still there? Thanks.
In ACPI mode, the system runs in IOAPIC mode, but with "acpi=off" and "pci=noacpi", the system runs in XT-PIC mode. Please boot in ACPI mode with just "noapic" and report the /proc/interrupts and report if the ethernet works then. If it does, then perhaps this is an interrupt configuration bug, or something specific to the IOAPIC. If it does not, and the interrupt configuration matches the "acpi=off" or "pci=noacpi" or "acpi=noirq" case, then the cause is somewhere else.
ping for reponse from bug reporters...thx!
No longer an issue for me, I'm using different hardware now.

Also problem happens only on real hardware, I tries similar configuration of Linux on VMware server / W2K Host, and all works fine. It would be great if you can get the interrupt assignment info in Windows. And please attach the content of /proc/interrupts.
It would be great if you can attach the acpidump info. Thanks.
could you please try to see if pci=routeirq work for you? bug# 4773 shows very similar phenomena as this...
Ok, I try do this at weekend (if have free time). Currently I have script that "fully" solve my problem, but not in good way. If some one expect some problems like me, you can use this script too. Start it somewhere in rc --cut #/bin/sh while [ true ]; do VALUE=`ping -c 1 192.168.0.1 | grep icmp_seq | grep time` if [ $? != 0 ]; then echo "eth1 down" ifconfig eth1 down ifconfig eth1 up fi if [ VALUE == "" ]; then echo "eth1 down" ifconfig eth1 down ifconfig eth1 up fi sleep 25 done --cut

Hi, Vitaly Will you please attach the full dmesg using the following the boot options? a. pci=noacpi b. acpi=noirq It will be great if you can attach the output of lspci -vvxxx and acpidump. The acpidump tool can be found in the following link: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/lenb/acpi/utils/pmtools-20071116.tar.bz2 Thanks.
Created attachment 14166 [details] use the attached tool to dump BIOS PRT/MPS table Will you please use the attached tool to dump BIOS PRT/MPS table? Thanks.
Vitaly (as you seem to be the sole surviving reporter) please collect he dmesg using "dmesg -s64000" so it will go back the beginning. please _attach_ it to the bug report rather than pasting it. so far, i don't see any suggestion that this is an ACPI interrupt configuration issue. It may be a generic Linux IOAPIC issue that is seen on specific hardware, or a driver issue.

Ok, dmesg output attached. if you need install any special version of kernel I can do it at my free time. Also I can produce memdump if needed. Before I was freebsd kernel developer so, if you need something to check I can do it for you. (If at Linux it work same as in freebsd) I install Linux only for VMware server. If it something helps I have Slackware 12 (upgraded from Slack 11). Im still young at Linux :) use it for 1 or maybe 2 years.
I'm using 2.5.24 (Debian package) since yesterday and don't have this problems anymore. But this is probably only due to http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8692 happening with this particular kernel version here (see comment http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8692#c75 )
2.6.24, of course...
Well, too many bug reporters here, for different bugs. In order to track the bug clearly, close this bug as Martin saied that bug can not be reproduced using 2.6.24. Vitaly, please file another bug report if the problem still exists in 2.6.24.
