Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur: 2.6.11 Distribution:Gentoo ( using Gentoo kernels) Hardware Environment: Amd Athlon 2500+ Software Environment Problem Description: When loading "winecfg" or other wine system, while the snd-mpu401-uart module is loaded, the kernel will completely hang. The card in question is a Hoontech 4DWaveNX ( Trident chipset ) , and this has been present in every kernel I've tried since 2.6.11.* I haven't been able to run a kdb session over serial console(I simply don't have the cable), or get a decent oops out of it on a console. However an Alt+SysRQ+P tells me its in the snd_mpu401_uart_input_trigger+0xcc/0x1b0, and a simple brute-force test (unload the modules and wipe them from disk) proved the case by not crashing. Steps to reproduce: start "winecfg"

okay, dug a bit more at this, and it appears to go away if I disable the alsa RTC timer.
Is this issue still present in kernel 2.6.16.5?
Please reopen this bug if it's still present in kernel 2.6.16.
