Distribution: Fedora Core 3 Hardware Environment: IBM ThinkPad A31p Software Environment: Fedora Core 3 + kernel 2.6.10-1.741_FC3 Problem Description: fan will start when cpu is hot but will never stop, even if cpu is cold an fan blows cold air. i understand that this machine may not allow control of the fan via ACPI, though it seems weird that 'something' makes the fan start, but that unknown 'something' can't stop the fan. its interesting that Windoze has a special power management driver called "IBM PM" driver thats required to install. Maybe IBM uses some custom method to control the fan? Steps to reproduce: boot, wait for fan to start, fan never stops.
*bump*
I am having this same problem using kernel 2.6.11.4-20050418133015-default running on an Averatec 3300 laptop (Intel 855GM chipset).
still an issue in 2.6.13?
I think this bug has been fixed in 2.6.13-1.1526_FC4 on Fedora Core 4. The CPU will now lower its speed as expected.
