Distribution: gentoo 2004.1 Hardware Environment: Dell Inspirion 600m (Pentium-M 1.4ghz, 768meg RAM, latest BIOS A14) Software Environment: linux 2.6.9-rc*, gcc 3.4.2 Problem Description: I have APM and ACPI enabled, the system boots alright, but hard locks when I close the lid to my laptop. The hang always happens. I noticed this happening with 2.6.9-rc* -- 2.6.8 appeared to work fine. Latest version tested is 2.6.9-rc3-bk5. Steps to reproduce: When closing the lid, the screen does not blank at all, and still displays everything while hung. I have to totally turn off the system and cold boot to get the system back.
Created attachment 3788 [details] my kernel config for 2.6.9-rc3-bk5
how about the result if you enable CONFIG_DEBUG_SPINLOCK_SLEEP?
no change, and nothing is output to the tty. if you have other debugging suggestions, I'd be more than happy to report back further.
Where the system hang? could you please attach a picture or write it down?
I get the exact same error but with an Dell Inspiron 8600 (Pentium-M 1.5GHz, 512MB, Bios A08) My software is almost the same kernel 2.6.9 + software suspend patch, gcc 3.4.2 If I press the lid switch I get an immediate hang. The screen remains the same as before the switch was pressed, whether in X or in a console. I need to do the 4-second powerdown as well. Back on kernel-2.6.8-x, I distinctly remember being able to monitor the lid buttong through /proc and see it toggle. Now I just get the hang
same with 2.6.10?
I get the same problem when pressing the lid button with the nmi_watchdog=1 kernel parameter with 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 on a Dell Inspiron 9100, Pentium 4 w/HT, BIOS A3. Removing the nmi_watchdog parameter removes the problem. gcc 3.3.5, binutils 2.15.92.0.2
I no longer have this problem as of 2.6.12. Thanks!
