Description Sandro Petrini 2004-08-23 07:41:19 UTC
Distribution:MDK 9.2, 10 or Custom
Hardware Environment:Motherboard (Gigabyte or ASUS) and nic (r8169 or sk98lin)
Software Environment:minimal for test
Problem Description:when two machine use massively the net (at 1G) to comunicate
with each other the sistem hang (freeze).

Steps to reproduce: two pc with 1G nic (I suggest r8169 or sk98lin) connected
each other with gigabite cross cable (the quality doesn't matter).
Kernel also the last 2.6.8.1 (i tryed 2.6.8.1-mm1, 2.4.22, etc..).

For each one mount via samba a folder in the other. (The question is: can samba
,in user space level, freeze the system ? NO!?).

Start to trasfer form each a lot of data in a shared of the other one.

So ... randomly, expecially in initial cold temperature, the system hangs.

We make a lot of test and suppose that is a IRQ, APIC subsystem problem BUT not
are sure!

Is very serious bug,
thank's in advance for help.

THE BIG PARTICULARITY OF THIS BUG is
that, when one of two PC hang, hang also the other !!!
Everytime!
Is very simple to reproduce.

Does it still occur with recent kernels, like 2.6.14?
Comment 3 Adrian Bunk 2006-04-16 17:39:50 UTC
I'm assuming this issue is already fixed in recent 2.6 kernels.

Please reopen this bug if it's still present in kernel 2.6.16.5.
