complete dmesg for a Lenovo W500 kernel 2.6.32-5-amd64 (Debian 2.6.32-35)
Comment 4 Tejun Heo 2011-08-04 09:35:29 UTC
Victor, your drive first reported medium error and then timed out while trying to read track information. Does this happen with any media? Can you please try a pressed one on a more recent kernel?

Thanks.
Comment 5 Victor Pablos Ceruelo 2011-08-04 12:55:02 UTC
Yes, with any cdrom/dvd copyrighted or not.
I can use both cdroms and dvds if I boot windows ... :-(
Here is an example with kernel 2.6.38-bpo.2-amd64 (Debian 2.6.38-5~bpo60+1).

vpablos@chiquitin:~$ mount /dev/cdrom
mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: /dev/sr0 already mounted or /media/cdrom0 busy
vpablos@chiquitin:~$

complete dmesg for a Lenovo W500 kernel 2.6.38-bpo.2-amd64 (Debian 2.6.38-5~bpo60+1)
Comment 7 Victor Pablos Ceruelo 2011-08-05 10:00:41 UTC
Bug fixed in

Linux version 2.6.39-2-amd64 (Debian 2.6.39-3)

I've tried 2.6.38-bpo.2-amd64 (Debian 2.6.38-5~bpo60+1) and the bug was still there,
but in 2.6.39-2-amd64 (Debian 2.6.39-3) it works perfectly.
The only lines appearing in dmesg are:

[ 116.814106] ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3
[ 116.894669] ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A

and I can access both cdroms and dvds copyrighted or not.

Pkgs installed during upgrade:

+linux-doc-2.6.39 install
+linux-image-2.6.39-2-amd64 install
+linux-headers-2.6.39-2-amd64 install
+linux-headers-2.6.39-2-common install
+linux-kbuild-2.6.39 install

+linux-doc-2.6.38 install
+linux-image-2.6.38-bpo.2-amd64 install
