This bug was originally reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/461419

Several tens of bugs have been filed about the poor performance, drop-outs, and non connectivity of the AR5211/AR242x/AR5007 chipset with the ath5k driver.

There is much debugging information at the above URL at the Launchpad tracker, forgive me for committing it like this.
