Description Michael S. Tsirkin 2009-07-05 18:22:16 UTC
On T500 thinkpad, I enabled KMS on i915, and noticed that only a single mode
shows up as enabled for the laptop's screen.

Without kms, all display modes are supported.
Tested on 2.6.31-rc2, 2.6.30 and 2.6.29.4-167 that ships with Fedora.

xrandr output:

With kms enabled (i915.modeset=1):
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 8192 x 8192

Since things work properly without modesetting
in kernel, this seems like a problem with the i915 driver.

This looks like https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20801, which has been fixed in 2.6.30. It's strange it still exists in new kernel.

To further track this mode issue, I'd suggest you to file a bug on freedesktop.org attaching logs with ModeDebug enabled for both UMS and KMS case, referring to http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html.

Thanks.
