Description Diego Ocampo 2008-10-10 11:47:51 UTC
Latest working kernel version: -----
Earliest failing kernel version: ----
Distribution: Ubuntu Hardy or Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex
Hardware Environment: wireless card intel pro/wireless 3945BG in laptop Samsung R70 / A009.
Software Environment: Gnome 2.24, Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex beta, kernel: 2.6.27-6-generic.

Problem Description: In the beginning NetworkManager doesn't show any wireless network, i can fix this by introducing the commands: sudo ifconfig wlan0 down
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up.

It is necessary to introduce this command each few minutes, it seems to be that the signal lose strengh but in windows i have not this problem.. if i introduce the commands then the network is working again.. but ramdonly the laptop freezes when i use the wireless card... i could never be more than 1 hour using internet without a freeze and usually is less time.

Are you in X when the freeze happens? Is the Caps Lock LED blinking? Wonder if you can stay in the console and try reproduce the problem, see if there is a kernel panic. You can also try netconsole to get the message.

I am using X when i have the problem, the computer freezes and with the the Caps Lock LED blinking.. but the computer is so frozen that i can not even switch to the console using Ctrl+Alt+Fx. So should i try to reproduce this problem without using the X? How can I use this netconsole (it is not installed in my ubuntu and i cannot find the package to install it)

Please start by trying to reproduce without using X -- take a digital picture of the crash and attach it to this bug...thanks!

I will try but i would like some help to do it, i am not an advanced user, and i really don't know how to connect to a wireless network or surf in the internet using this connection without using X, i will try but if you can give me some basic commands to do it, it will be easier.

You can make you wireless connection under X. Then Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to the console and try downloading something with wget.
Comment 6 Diego Ocampo 2008-10-15 09:44:46 UTC
I couldn't reproduce the error just using the console.. maybe the use of internet i can do using the console is too simple to enable the problem.
But like i said this is not the only problem i have with this drivers.. also lot of times i am in university trying to connect to the wifi and network manager just don't find the university network, or connects to it and then disconnects, being impossible to connect to it again.. i could think it is a problem of the network, but if i change to windows vista then i have not any problem..

I think either 3945BG drivers or network manager has more than a critical bug concerning to 3945 users (and i think we are a lot of users)
