ta9.01: ATAPI: LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S, MS0R, max UDMA/66
ata9.01: limited to UDMA/33 due to 40-wire cable
ata9.01: configured for UDMA/33
scsi 8:0:1:0: CD-ROM LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S MS0R PQ: 0 ANSI: 5

Looks perfectly fine to me. Make sure you have the sr driver loaded and are using /dev/sr0 (or that your distribution generates proper /dev/cdrom links)
