append irqpoll to kernel boot params fixed problem

Steps to reproduce:

boot without irqpoll append parameter
Comment 1 Adrian Bunk 2008-06-15 03:30:23 UTC
Although it's unlikely to help please confirm that 2.6.26-rc6 still has this problem.

Please attach the output of "dmesg -s 1000000".
Comment 2 Len Brown 2008-06-15 22:24:47 UTC
Was there a previous version of Linux that did not have this problem?

please attach the output from acpidump and lspci -vv
Comment 3 Cijoml Cijomlovic Cijomlov 2008-06-16 04:25:55 UTC
Hi Len,

I tested also 2.6.24 kernel and it has same problem. I will attach dump later.

thanks for confirming that 2.6.24 fails like 2.6.25.
If you could verify that the latest upstream kernel - 2.6.26-rc
still fails, that would be helpful. It it isn't too much trouble,
it would be good to know if any of the 'high volume kernels,
such as 2.6.18, or 2.6.20 pre-date this issue,
or if it has always existed.

Also, still looking for the output from dmesg -s64000

Also, please take a close look at irq19 in /proc/interrupts
and see if some sort of device activity causes it to increment.
eg. try disconnecting the network, try unloading driver for sdhc0 etc.
Comment 7 ykzhao 2008-06-17 00:21:56 UTC
Hi, Cijoml
Will you please try the boot option of "noapic" and attach the output of dmesg?
Please attach the output of lspci -vxxx.
   Thanks.

Reject this bug because there is no response from the bug reporter.
Comment 9 Piotr Keplicz 2008-08-17 10:04:13 UTC
Please, reopen this bug. The issue is still valid on v2.6.27-rc3-414-gb09c3e3.

/proc/interrupts counters for IRQ 19 increment at a rate of 50-something every second. No devices are plugged into the PCMCIA or SD card slots.

With "noapic" the boot process stalls for 9 minutes and then resumes.

No.
Piotr, the lspci shows that you are not using the same hardware as Cijoml's.
so these are two different problems and we should not reopen this bug report for another problem.

Please open another bug report and attach the acpidump output and the content of /proc/interrupt.

try the debug patch

Will you please try the attached debug patch and add the boot option of "irqpoll"?
After the system is booted, please wait for about three minutes and attach the output of dmesg.
Thanks.

Hi, Cijoml
Will you please attach the output of full dmesg on the 2.6.27.5 kernel?(The debug patch is required and the boot option of "irqpoll" is added).

From the log in comment #24 it seems that the issue still exists even when "irqpoll" option is added.
Will you please double check it again?
   Thanks.
Comment 27 Zhang Rui 2008-11-25 18:36:39 UTC
please ignore comment #26. :)
please apply the debug patch, try to boot both w/ and w/o boot option "irqpoll" and attach the full dmesg output.(
Comment 28 Shaohua 2008-11-25 19:01:49 UTC
Also can you just enabled one driver of yenta and sdhci, see if the same irq issue appears. This could help narrow down the issue.
