Description Bruno Lambert 2008-05-19 15:38:14 UTC
Latest working kernel version: never
Earliest failing kernel version: all
Distribution: all, currently Slackware 12.1.
Hardware Environment: my laptop, a LG r405 with that wireless card (RT2860)
Software Environment: Linux
Problem Description: Can't use wireless, need to boot in Windows Vista, wish is painfully slow, ugly and, mostly, not fun to use.

Steps to reproduce: Boot into linux.

The driver is available on their website: http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Linux.html http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/drivers/2008_0325_RT2860_Linux_STA_v1.6.1.0.tar.bz2 . I don't know the license issue with that, but I know that the driver compile and work on 2.6.24 (well, need firmware, but that's like with the intel ipw2200 etc...). It would be great to have it directly in the kernel.

Thank you,

-Bruno Lambert

Those drivers on the Ralink website should also work with more recent kernels. If not you can raise a support issue on their website.

In-kernel drivers for rt2860/rt2870 are already under development.

Hi Ivo,

can you give us some more information on the in-kernel drivers?
Are there any testing releases yet?

Greetings
Jan

There is currently no release made for those drivers.
At this time is consist of incomplete code and hasn't been touched over the last month, which means I still have to sync it with latest rt2x00 changes.
As of monday I will have more time available to work on it, and I'll do my best to get something testable as soon as possible.

The best thing you can do is subscribe to the rt2400-devel@lists.sourceforge.net or
linux-wireless@vger.kernel.org mailinglist to see announcements regarding rt2x00/rt2800.
