Backlightcontrol doesn't work anymore.

My Laptop is a Acer Extensa 5220. Other people with the same Laptop have the same problem (not distribution specific). I also heard about this problem with Thinkpad x61s .
Both have an intel X3100 graphics chip.

You mean the brightness switch hokkey doesn't work any more, right?
Please attach the dmesg and acpidump output.
You can get the latest pmtools at:

Nothing changed in ACPI video driver between rc3 and rc4.
Could you please do a git bisect to find which patch cause the problem please?
Please refer to http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/git-bisect.html

Hi, hannes,
please look at bug #9663 and see if the solution there can work for you.

Hi, Hannes
Will you please try the patch in comment #8 of bug 9627 and see whether backlingt can work ? (Please test it on the 2.6.24-rc4 kernel ).
Please attach the output of dmesg.
It will be great if you can enable the ACPI debug in kernel configuration and add the boot option of "acpi.debug_layer=0x08010004 acpi.debug_level=0x1f".(Had better apply the patch from comment 28 bug 9642).

    thanks.

no response for a month
please re-open if this is still a problem with 2.6.25-rc6 or later
