If you want to get a driver merged, ask its author to submit it (and act as maintainer of the driver!). The linux kernel doesn't "merge" code, coders submits and maintains it. Diego, I'm sure the people on the v4l list know a lot better than me Michel Xhaard's position, what it would take for him to submit his driver, and the technical problems (if any). So this is a reminder the current situation is pretty bad for users and everyone is not happy with it. I don't want to antagonize the author bringing up a subject he probably already discussed with the v4l maintainers Absence of out of tree drivers in mainline isn't a defect of the kernel, but a failure on the part of the driver authors to push those to mainline for whatever reason. Having this open in bugzilla isn't really going to accomplish anything. For this to go into mainline, it needs someone to volunteer to get it into shape, and look after it once its in the tree. The review etc of that code needs to happen on linux-kernel, not in bugzilla. |
