Summary: kernel pcmcia and Netgear MA401 time out error
Product: Drivers Reporter: HJH (hjh)
Component: PCMCIAAssignee: linux-pcmcia

Description HJH 2007-03-21 14:12:27 UTC
Most recent kernel where this bug did *NOT* occur: 2.4.27 (with pcmcia-cs driver)
Distribution: Debian
Hardware Environment: IBM thinkpad i240
Software Environment: Linux
Problem Description: When plugging in a Netgear MA401 wireless networkcard, the
pcmcia socket only sends a time out error:
cs: pcmcia_socket0: time out after reset.

The following modules are loaded:
yenta_socket 24588 1
rsrc_nonstatic 11904 1 yenta_socket
pcmcia_core 36240 3 pcmcia,yenta_socket,rsrc_nonstatic

The pcmcia kernel loader works fine with a "normal" wired pcmcia network card
I also tried 2.6.18 kernel with the same result.
The 2.4.27 pcmcia kernel driver also yields the same result.

Steps to reproduce:
Install a 2.6.20 kernel, install pcmciautils
load the previously mentioned drivers, and plug in the card.
The only result is a time out on the pcmcia socket.

It seems that this is a widely known issue, just go to google and search for
"2.6 netgear MA401".

Closing.
The issues were due to dying hardware.
The card was breaking down.
