Bug 7525

Summary: Disk powers-off twice during shutdown
Product: ACPI Reporter: Patrick (naetrick)
Component: Power-OffAssignee: Zhang Rui (rui.zhang)
Status: REJECTED INVALID
Severity: high

Description Patrick 2006-11-14 10:39:01 UTC
Most recent kernel where this bug did *NOT* occur:
Distribution: Gentoo
Hardware Environment: Maxtor 6B300R0 (Kit L01R300) 16MB Cache ATA/133 IDE. ABIT
IS7 motherboard (i965PE chipset).
Software Environment:

Problem Description: As of kernel 2.6.17, and including 2.6.18, during the
system halt process (using the command 'halt' as root), the system goes into the
usual procedures; then the drive powers off as usual. However, the drive then
powers back on, and off again. After this, the system finally powers down. This
problem happens everytime I attempt to shutdown the system. This was not the
case in <= 2.6.16. I've just booted back into 2.6.16 on the same system, and
this problem does not occur.

This problem also occurs for me in 2.6.19.2. When halting the system, I get this
message, when the drive powers back on, after it's power-off:

Remounting filesystems read-only [ok]

Does this still exists in the latest kernel release?
Does this still happen if you boot with acpi=off?
Comment 3 Len Brown 2008-01-09 00:59:07 UTC
duplicate of bug 8855?
Comment 4 Zhang Rui 2008-03-18 02:16:05 UTC
Reject due to no response from the bug reporter.
Patrick, please reopen it if it is not a duplicate of bug 8855.
