what happens when you "modprobe r8169"? Please attach (do note paste) the output from dmesg -r 64000 from both the working and failing kernels. Unclear this has anything to do with ACPI. Does it work properly with "acpi=off" and fails without? Created attachment 8743 [details]
dmesg UP Kernel
Standard UP Kubuntu Kernel:
RTL8111/8168B PCI Express works.

dmesg SMP Kernel
Vanilla 2.6.18-rc3-git7 kernel with SMP support
When starting the SMP Kernel with acpi=off, system hangs/freeze at a indeterminable state of the boot process. The asus-acpi module is not working for the board, so I had to remove it to avoid error messages in syslog "Asus ACPI: Error reading LCD status" . The module is r8169 is loaded. root@asus:~# lsmod | grep r8169 r8169 32008 0 It can be removed and loaded again. root@asus:~# rmmod r8169 root@asus:~# modprobe -v r8169 insmod /lib/modules/2.6.18-rc3-git7/kernel/drivers/net/r8169.ko but no line in syslog and no access to it. root@asus:~# LANG=C ifconfig eth1 eth1: error fetching interface information: Device not found Please check if the problem is still present in 2.6.21 Please reopen this bug if it's still present with kernel 2.6.22. |
