I just tried with RC4 and the freeze still happens. I had a similar problem, but it seems to have gone away for the moment. Are you using the ndiswrapper drive by any chance ? Taking a look at the 2.6.17 -> 2.6.18-rc1 change log shows about 4 or 6 patches that effect the x86_64 memory management code, and could be the cause of this bug. If i get time, i'll try bisecting these patches to see which ones cause the lockup. I only use ndiswrapper with stable kernel. When testing I use bcm43xx driver that is in the kernel. I am seeing this too on a Gentoo laptop with vanilla 2.6.18.1. I am not using the ndiswrapper but Prism54, so I guess that's not the problem. Is the problem still happening with recent kernels? If so, can you clarify: does it happen after power save mode? You can also check for errors in /var/log/messages. Thanks. Currently I'm running kernel 2.6.22.3 and don't get the freezes anymore. |
